Local 174
News
Fort Worth Are Members of Tarrant County Central Labor Council10/7/2005 Yes, we are officially affiliated with the state level AFL-CIO, Tarrant County Central Labor Council. Four Delegates have been selected to represent local 174 and their names are Verl Daiker, Robert Perez, Todd Peak and Jack Winslow. They will be attending the council meetings on the third Tuesday of the month and hopefully bringing us some good information about what’s going on in Texas concerning Labor and Political issues. Other 174 members may also attend the Tuesday meetings if they wish. Just be sure you have your members’ cards or you may get yourself thrown out. This group of people takes union business serious. It is a very inspirational group.
As members of the Tarrant County Central Labor Council (TCCLC) the local members in Fort Worth will have access to more information concerning political and Labor Issues. Some of the other benefits are:
- Community Learning Center, Inc., the educational arm of TCCLC, has received federal and state grants to address the needs of dislocated/incumbent workers and youth in the community, to remove employment barriers and learn new skills for re-employment/upgrades.
- TCCLC awards two $1000 scholarships to high school seniors who are children of union members. The Texas AFL-CIO also offers three scholarships, therefore there are five scholarships awarded annually.
- The Community Service Liaison Program assists by providing information and referral services through the United Way for union families.
-The Council believe in strong community relations, getting the word out to always elect labor friendly politicians into all offices.
-Actively participate in leading the way in workers' compensation reform by having informed members.
-Active support of local union events, issues and concerns.
-Access to the Union Hall for any function the Members may need.
All the Fort Worth Members are welcomed to attend any of the TCCLC meetings on the third Tuesday of the month at 7:30 P.M.
